System objective

A swap harness should have a documented power map: battery feed, ignition feed, ECU/coil/injector power, fuel pump, fans, starter control and accessories. High-current loads need appropriate wire size, fuse protection and relays.

RB26DETT-specific context

The RB26DETT was designed around an AWD Skyline installation, so an S-chassis RWD swap needs an intentional sump/oil-pickup and transmission strategy. Twin-turbo hardware also adds heat and packaging complexity; many builds change induction layout, but that choice changes exhaust, oil/water plumbing and tuning requirements.

For this engine family, the system should be built around the exact donor version and the intended duty cycle. Solve sump/rack, engine height, radiator/fan depth, transmission location and exhaust/steering clearance as one packaging problem.

Field validation

Test grounds and power feeds under load with voltage drop, not only an ohmmeter. Preserve shielded/twisted signal wiring where the donor uses it, protect wires from heat and abrasion, and label added circuits so future troubleshooting is possible.

  2. Size wire/fuses/relays for loads.
  3. Protect and label the harness.
  4. Test voltage drop during cranking and high load.
  5. Confirm ECU sensor values and fan/pump logic before road testing.

Build the harness so it can be diagnosed later

RB26DETT field checks

Use a fuse and relay layout that makes circuit purpose obvious. Label both ends of added wiring and keep a diagram showing wire color, gauge, fuse, relay and destination. Future you—or the next owner—should not need to unwrap the harness to identify a fuel-pump trigger.

Voltage-drop testing is especially useful on high-current circuits. With the load operating, measure from battery positive to the load positive and from load ground back to battery negative. Those readings show loss that a continuity test with the circuit off can miss.

Plan fail-safe behavior. A fan relay failure, ECU reset or broken sensor wire should not create a hidden unsafe condition. Protect wiring from exhaust heat, sharp edges and tire/suspension movement, and provide strain relief at connectors.

For RB26DETT, keep the exact donor/version in the diagnostic notes. Sensor locations, control logic, accessory layout and factory limits can vary inside an engine family, so a result from another version is a clue—not proof.
