S14 240SX Buyer Inspection Guide

A structured inspection for 1995–1998 U.S.-market S14 240SX cars, including modified and swap cars.

Confirm identity and completeness

Verify VIN/title information, model year, major installed components and whether important emissions/safety equipment has been removed. Missing trim is often less important than missing wiring documentation or structural damage, but rare body/interior pieces can be expensive to replace.

Structure and suspension

Inspect rails, rocker/pinch welds, front and rear suspension pickup areas, strut towers, radiator support, rear subframe region and signs of previous straightening. Check adjustable arms for seized joints, torn boots, loose jam nuts and poor hardware.

Engine-swap inspection

Do not evaluate a swap only by how clean the engine bay looks. Check engine/trans mount quality, driveline angle/vibration, fuel-line material/routing, wiring protection, fuse/relay strategy, grounds, cooling airflow, exhaust clearance, heat shielding and whether routine service is still possible.

Budget for unknowns

An inexpensive modified car can require more money to document and correct than a more expensive complete car. Price the unknown wiring, worn bushings, tires, brakes, cooling and driveline parts before deciding the purchase is a bargain.

Verify the exact car

Chassis condition, donor version, aftermarket geometry and local legal requirements vary. Measure your car and use the correct factory/component documentation before fabrication or safety-critical work.
