Fuel System Planning for Modified 240SX Builds
A practical way to size injectors, pumps, lines, filters and regulators without confusing component marketing ratings with delivered fuel flow.
Start with fuel mass demand
Engine power requires fuel mass, not a particular pump brand. Estimate demand from target horsepower and BSFC, then add reasonable margin. Injector duty cycle, fuel type and cylinder count determine required injector flow. Use the site calculators to expose those assumptions.
Evaluate the pump at pressure
A pump advertised at free-flow or low pressure will deliver less as pressure rises. For a boosted manifold-referenced system, rail pressure rises with boost, so evaluate pump flow at the highest expected differential pressure and realistic vehicle voltage. Ethanol-compatible fuel can also require more volume for the same power.
Pressure regulation and plumbing
A stable regulator, unrestricted filter, suitable hose/line material, correct routing and adequate electrical supply all matter. Measure pressure under load when possible; static idle pressure alone cannot prove the system keeps up.
Safety
Use fuel-rated components, protect lines from heat and abrasion, secure them away from moving parts, and pressure-test before driving. A fuel leak in a modified engine bay is a fire hazard, not a tuning inconvenience.
Chassis condition, donor version, aftermarket geometry and local legal requirements vary. Measure your car and use the correct factory/component documentation before fabrication or safety-critical work.
