What the budget estimate is designed to reveal
Practical context
The useful part of a swap budget is not the exact total—it is the categories that are easy to forget. Engine cost can be obvious while driveshaft work, clutch hydraulics, fittings, fluids, heat shielding, wiring cleanup, sensors, exhaust fabrication, fasteners and troubleshooting consume the margin.
Prices vary by location, parts condition and whether labor is DIY, mixed or professional. The range shown by this tool is intentionally broad and should be replaced with quotes for the exact mounts, transmission, clutch, driveshaft, ECU/harness, radiator/fans, fuel system and exhaust you intend to use.
Keep a contingency separate from the planned parts list. Unknown donor condition, broken hardware, incompatible accessories and fabrication changes are common on decades-old chassis. Spending the full budget before the engine is mocked up leaves no room to solve those problems correctly.
